Diving into an Bizarre Steam Demo: Controlling a Turdy Character in a Mission to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and players have encountered a variety of engaging indie games. However, one is particularly notable for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled jumping adventure includes a hero that is actually a piece of poop trying to make its way to a toilet. In case you're wondering, "Unko" translates to "poop."

How you interact is simple: press a single jump button. In 150 stages, encounter boss fights and unlock a market to purchase customizations for your dung hero.

Execute your jumps with caution, as a error means beginning again. Leap off air pockets to hurl your character to new heights, traverse crumbling surfaces, and activate triggers to open secret routes. Earn coins to purchase tougher levels as gameplay gets crazy.

Visually, the demo boasts vibrant stages and catchy music score. The retro graphics featuring moving geometric shapes may remind players of beloved games like Earthbound.

Although hard to name other games where you control a dung character, interactive entertainment often included fecal matter. For example, in Death Stranding, players create grenades from protagonist droppings. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize manure as fertilizer. And of course, this theme appears heavily in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its silly concept, Unko Technica has already received notable awards, such as taking top honors at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. The demo is available at present on Steam, with the final release planned to launch on Steam this November.
